The strongest effort from this estate in over two decades, the dense ruby/purple-tinged 2008 reveals plenty of structure and tannin as well as gorgeously rich, pure blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with hints of minerals and underbrush. This full, dense St.-Estephe will benefit from several years of bottle age, and should evolve over the following 15 years.

I love the density of fruit with currants and cassis and berries on the palate. It's juicy. Full bodied, with lovely fruit and flowers. Long and fresh. Best after 2012.

Owned by the Cazes family of Lynch-Bages, therefore with impeccable winemaking behind it, this is a big, tough wine based on great ripe fruit. The château continues to offer quality for price.

Chateau Ormes de Pez is a classic Saint-Estephe. Grown from a predominantly clay soil, their Merlot-heavy wines are often fine examples of balanced power and finesse. Earlier drinking than neighbours Montrose and Cos d'Estournel, they are nevertheless excellent representations of the style of the region.
